Now smartphones also come with artificial intelligence and a personal voice assistant. These smartphones have the ability to solve various tasks using latest software and hardware. Major brands for manufacturing and retailing smartphones are Samsung, Apple, Huawei and for feature phones are Samsung, Nokia and Alcatel. There is a very tough competition among the brands in mobile phone market in the world. these companies are continuously working on providing mobile phones with the best user interface and experience with latest technologies to their customers.
History of mobile phones
Before the evolution of cellular phones or mobile phones, there were telephones which were big in size as compared to mobile phone and were not for taking it here and there. They usually needed a wire connection for making phone calls. In 1979, The first handheld mobile phone was established By John F. Mitchel and Martin Cooper from Motorola. This mobile phone was nearly 2 kilograms in weight. In Japan, NNT (Nippon Telegraph and telephone) launched world’s first cellular network. DynaTAC 8000x was the world’s first mobile phone that was available commercially in the year 1983. Earlier mobile phones were having 0G (0-Generation) services. These services were to provide just simultaneous calling facility and were very expensive. Then 1G (1st generation) systems were introduced which were far better then 0G systems and were able to make more simultaneous calls and had the analog cellular technology. In 1991, 2G (2nd generation) systems started with GSM standards. In this, a mobile phone has the ability to use the internet and browse and download things from the internet. NTT Docomo launched 3G in Japan in 2001 with WCDMA standards. There were then 3.5G, 3G+ or turbo 3G enhancements followed 3G, giving their user’s mobile phone to use the internet and transfer data with much higher speed and capacities with the help of data packs. Media streaming, and other things for which the internet can be used by public users, was also going high with the faster pace. Then in 2009, 4G was introduced in America with WiMAX standards by Sprint, and TeliaSonera introduced LTE standards in Scandinavia, North Europe.
Types of mobile phones
There are basically 2 types of mobile phones present in the modern market:-
Feature phones – these phones have a basic user interface and custom-made software. Besides from making calls and text message, they have basic features like having basic media and internet.
Smartphones – smartphones have much wide and rich list of features and uses as compared to feature phones. These phones have artificial intelligence, latest software, and can be used with the much wider use of the internet.
Mobile phone Parts (hardware, software)
Mobile phones mainly contain 2 types of parts i.e. hardware and software. Hardware is a part which can be seen and touched. Hardware includes - battery, keypad, screen, speakers, touchscreen, sim cards, memory card or chip, motherboard etc. while software is a part of mobile that can be seen but not touched. Eg – user interface, personal voice assistant, games, media players and various other software.
